Stabilized integrated optical based BI quadrature DC current sensors

Funding period: 2025 - 2026

The aim of the project is to validate a patent that enables the temperature compensation and thus the long-term stabilization of polarimetric, optical-based current sensors. The use of modern optical current sensors enables a sustainable reduction in the insulation requirements of current transformers, which makes measurement technology attractive in both high voltage direct current systems and alternating current systems. The validation of the patent is carried out in two phases. In phase 1, the underlying polarimetric evaluation of the measurement principle is validated under laboratory conditions and verified by simulation. In phase 2, a prototype will be used to allow initial realistic measurements and provide experimental verification.
